Faith

Faith is inexhaustible, leaving only `islands of rationality in the ocean of credulity’ (Michel de Certeau) that always threatens to sink them under its rising tide. Faith in countless superstitions, the Church, in God, Allah, and the god-given right to rule by kings, sheiks, emirs, and their empires has been transported to the invisible hand of market capitalism, justifying the rule of those who profit most from the new religion. No mystery then why education has come under attack by them and why the uneducated and ill-educated turn to populism and extremism to express their very real subjection.
